The Trollbeads Story

Trollbeads originally started in Denmark 1976. The first bead, was a small bead decorated with no less than 6 faces, which later gave name to the Trollbeads collection. The beads were created at a time where the fashion was to have a silver bead hanging on a leather thong around the neck, but instead of letting the bead hang in an eyelet, Søren the original designer decided to let the leather cord go through the bead. Soon after, Søren's sister, Lise, began to put the beads on silver.

As the brand developed customers started to ask to have an extra bead put on their bracelets. Surprised as they were by this, from then on, the adventure of the Trollbeads movement had started. In cooperation with the customers and according to their wishes, the collection grew. This was the beginning of an original jewellery concept that today is enjoyed across the World.

Still, members of the creative Nielsen/Aagaard family participate in the actual design and sculpture of the beads, as well as the manufacturing. Until year 2000 every design came from the family. To add diversity to the collection, 10 famous Danish designers were invited to make their signature Trollbead in the collection, many of whom still add beads to the collection every year.

As the beads became more and more popular the collection grew. Gold and pearl beads were introduced and new locks were designed, making it possible to add or remove beads in order to experiment in different combinations.

The first glass beads entered the Trollbeads collection in 2001. Today you can find Trollbeads in more than 50 countries and has over 50 internationally renowned designers, through these designers over 600 different beads have produced - each with their unique design and story.

Trollbeads Jewellery by Acotis are delighted to be able to be part of this ever growing brand, holding events, contributing to ideas and working closely as part of a team.  We look forward to seeing you soon…
